The Catamount Trail: 300 Miles of Cross-Country Skiing the Length of Vermont

At 300 miles in length and spanning the state of Vermont from bottom to top, the Catamount Trail is one of Vermont’s treasured gems. It is a cross-country ski trail that has been in the making since 1984 and was fully linked together in 2008. Skiers and snowshoers take to the trail every winter season — most for the day, many on CTA tours and some to go end-to-end — all enjoying the backcountry, touring center, farmland and village surroundings along the way. Celebrate our 25th Anniversary by joining us for our tours and special events.  2009 Winter Tours and Events

Members are the backbone of the Catamount Trail and support its maintenance and protection. The Trail was founded, built, and is maintained by members.  For as little as $35 for a basic CTA membership, you can help us continue to keep this valuable Vermont asset open to the public for generations to come.               2009 FJG Race To The Top Of Vermont

Mark your calendar for the Fleischer Jacobs Group (FJG) Race To The Top Of Vermont on Sunday, August 30, 2009. After a tremendously successful debut event last summer, we will continue to make this one of Vermont's premier running and mountain bike races. Take the Catamount Challenge by racing to the top of Mt Mansfield with 800 other like minded athletes. We will even have a non-competitive class for those participants who wish to walk to the top of VT. This year the Catamount Trail Association will team up with Mobius, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to growing a culture of mentoring in our communities and finding caring adults to mentor children.

A Note from Gert Lepine!

April 1, 2008
Dear Friends at the Catamount Trail,
What a great party we had at our house due to the Trail.
The Kroka Expedition had scheduled a stop at our house early on. But to make it a super occasion was a surprise birthday party for Hannah (a counselor). Her mother and younger sister came from Hartland with a beautiful, three-layer chocolate cake with ample frosting.
You can imagine these teenagers just off the Trail after months in the outdoors. What a treat for everybody.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the creation and conservation of this wonderful project – the Catamount Trail.
Seeing what this project is offering to these teenagers makes the whole thing one of Vermont’s Greatest Treasures!
    You’re the greatest!
Sincerely,
Gert Lepine

Note: Gert, whose farm is located in the Mud City section of Morrisville, donated CTA's first trail easement in 1994.
