Trail damage…….Trail cleanup……..trail damage………trail cleanup. That’s the cycle of trail maintenance we deal with all year on the Catamount Trail. The 2014-2015 winter started with a bang in mid-December, dumping heavy snow across Vermont. Within hours, the reports of trail damage began to trickle in to the CTA office. Some sections were virtually impassable, such as this photos we received from Section 5.
But as the damage reports came in, so too did the offers for help. Over the past few weeks, over 100 people worked on the Catamount Trail, logging more than 450 hours of trail work. And the numbers are still trickling in! We are happy to report that most of the trail is back in business, although some sections will need additional attention throughout the season.
Thanks to the immense outpouring of support, our 2015 Tours are still on track to cover lots of ground on the Catamount Trail. Thanks everybody who helped out: CTA members, Green Mountain Club members, Middlebury Mountain Club members, VAST , and countless other individuals who pitched in. Here’s a picture from Northern Week-Long Tour, skiing on what looks like a nicely repaired section of trail!
