Keeping the Catamount Trail in good shape is a big project! Every year volunteers pitch in to help maintain 300+ miles of trail. Whether you join us for a day or for a weekend, your involvement goes a long way! Bring a friend, give back to the trails you enjoy, and help ensure that skiers have a great experience on the Catamount Trail.
Trail Work Weekends
Each summer the CTA hosts Volunteer Work Weekends to help complete larger trail projects. Recruit your friends or bring your family to enjoy a weekend in the Vermont woods. Join us for a day or for the whole weekend. On Saturday and Sunday we work on the trail. The CTA provides a campsite or lodging with friends of the CTA, and we gather for dinner Saturday evening. For those who prefer more luxurious accommodations, we are happy to recommend local lodging. Our trail work weekends are July 16-17 in Fayston, VT, and August 13-14 in Sterling Valley. Both are bridge repair/construction projects. Visit the Trail Work Weekends page to learn more.
Summer Trail Work Days
Join the CTA and other volunteers in our summer effort to tackle trail improvement projects. Summer trail work days are announced in late Spring each year. You’ll need lunch, water, long pants, work gloves, hiking boots, protection from sun/bugs, and a pair of loppers or a handsaw.
Fall Trail Work Days
Join CTA’s Trail Chiefs and other volunteers in our annual effort to clear the Catamount Trail of blow-downs, branches, and brush. Fall trail work days are announced in late summer each year. You’ll need lunch, water, long pants, work gloves, hiking boots, a warm layer, and a pair of loppers or a handsaw. Pack or wear blaze orange as many of these dates occur during hunting season.
For more details on any of these volunteer opportunities, or to register to participate, please contact the CTA at 802-864-5794 or email us. The CTA staff can provide you with more details on lodging opportunities for each event when you register.
