Found this gem over on the Adventure Journal Blog and it reminded me of a couple of definitions I heard or read somewhere…
Adventure: Something that’s not fun while it’s happening.
Epic: An overabundance of unpleasantness.
Now think about some of the things we do for fun… backcountry skiing, ice climbing, trail running, winter trail running… During all of these activities you experience moments–some of these moments being longer than others–that are not particularly fun or enjoyable, and it can be hard to explain to others why these activities are so damn fun. Some people just can’t understand how getting up before dawn to go slog up a mountain in the dark, cold, and wind could possibly be fun. And the truth is parts of these experiences are not fun, but they are rewarding. And for those of you out there that get it… the image above pretty much says it all and I just wanted to share it because it’s awesome!
