Section 7: South Road to Danby-Mt Tabor Road – Catamount Trail Association

Please do not park at the McCartney House Inn to access the Catamount Trail. Please use the parking/access areas indicated in the section description below.

Snapshot

This section offers a mix of back-country trails, the ungroomed trails of the Mountain Valley Trail Association, and Class IV roads, ending in open fields near the Landgrove Inn.

8.9 miles

Difficulty

This section is easy to intermediate, starting with a climb from South Rd. to Rock Bottom Ln. The rest of the route is fairly level and there are several road crossings providing alternative start and stop points.

Staying Found

Out in the woods keeping track of where you are can be a challenge. A map and compass is always a reliable option, but there are some great technological solutions that can make knowing where you are super simple. This means they can be opened directly in apps like Avenza and used for navigation even in areas where there is no cell service.
