I am very excited to take on the role of Youth Programs coordinator this year with CTA. The process of planning this years Ski Cubs program has given me a chance to communicate with individuals and organizations across the state, and for me, it has sparked a bubbling excitement for my first winter back in Vermont. Here is a quick update on Ski Cubs 2017. Please continue to check back with updates from our skiing adventures!
Ski Cubs 2017
Now in its 5th year as part of the Catamount Trail Associations mission to promote the sport of Cross Country Skiing, the Ski Cubs program hopes to capitalize on, what we all hope to be a snowy winter. As our program dates draw nearer, we are again seeing tremendous enthusiasm from schools, youth groups, and community centers across the state. Returning participating groups include the O’Brian Community Center, The Sustainability Academy, Folsom School in South Hero, Brewster Pierce Elementary in Huntington, and State Street School in Windsor. We are also teaming up with a number of new organizations for the 2017 season including Shelburne Community School and Essex Junction Recreation and Parks. These community groups are the key to our programs and are the reason why we are able to get kiddos out on skis to enjoy Vermont winter.
Volunteers at the Heart
Ski Cubs is primarily instructed by experienced and friendly volunteers. Most volunteers are experienced cross country skiers who enjoy working with kids and exploring winter trails. Here in Vermont, we have a tremendous resource at our fingertips. Our state is home to generations of talented and passionate skiers. Also, CTA’s membership consists of the most generous and engaged individuals in their communities across the state and New England. You can see, then how one of the easiest jobs for Ski Cubs coordinators is recruiting these amazing volunteers. When our community is given the chance to donate their time and share their passion for skiing and the outdoors, they respond with fervor. My call for Ski Cubs volunteers this year was no exception, and I am happy to welcome a phenomenal group of new and returning instructors.
Thanks to all of the organizations, volunteers, students, and educators who will be contributing to Ski Cubs 2017. Lets have a great season and THINK SNOW!!
