In Honor and Envy of the One Who Made Those Tracks
Above:
a cobalt sky
interrupted only by the insistent green
of pine and fir,
gray limbs and twig-fingers
of bare trees
that even winter-drugged
have not forgotten
how to reach
as far as arborly possible
into that impossible blue
where all is possible.
Covering the earth:
white
sifted with diamond dust
betrothed
nestled to betrothed
mounded everywhere
like a tufted comforter.
Ahead:
two narrow tracks carved by
a single pilgrim
who dared enter these woods
to ski beneath this blue
press her signature seal into this white.
