In Their Packs & On Their Backs is a recurring feature here on the CTA blog where we take a peek inside the packs of seasoned backcountry skiers to see what they take with them when out exploring Vermont in the winter. By exposing some of the choices these winter professionals have made, we hope to inform those who still have questions about what to bring when heading off into the woods. Please keep in mind that we’re not here to tell you what to do or not do… that’s for you to decide.
This week Sarah Galbraith opens her pack to so we can see all the odds and ends she likes to bring with when exploring the backcountry of Vermont. Sarah has lived in Vermont for the past 8 years but has only been skiing for the last 4. She loves being in the snowy woods and mountains, just skitching around (she made up that word… but we all know what she’s talking about). In the past Sarah worked in renewable energy and currently she is a program manager at the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund. She’s also a writer covering outdoor sports, gear, and events in Vermont. Lastly, she wanted everyone to know that she buys all of her gear at Onion River Sports.
Below Sarah provided shots of both her Backcountry Kit and her Dawn Patrol Kit. She didn’t include a photo of the pack, but Sarah is using the Osprey Kode 32 for all of her ski adventures.
Sarah’s Backcountry Setup: Voile Vector BC Ski (shown here)/Rossi BC125/Karhu 10th Mountain, Garmont Excursion Boot, Voile 3-Pin Hardwire Bindings.
Sarah’s Dawn Patrol Kit: Black Diamond Verdict Skis, Scarpa T-2 Boots, Black Diamond 01 Tele Binding w/Mid-Stiff Cartridge.
Are you a backcountry explorer? If you are we want to know what’s in your pack too. It doesn’t matter if you use XCD, AT, tele, or splitboard equipment. We want to see it all. Just send us a photo of your equipment all laid out neatly, a picture of yourself, a short bio, and 2 lists… 1 detailing the equipment on your body, and the other detailing the equipment in your pack. You can submit your info to gmaino@catamounttrail.org
