So, we’ve already covered stocking stuffers and other gifts for the backcountry skier that cost less than $25. But, maybe the skier in your life is special. Maybe you’re feeling generous, or maybe you’re hoping that if you get them something good they will have to get you something good as well. Regardless of your situation, below you will find some of our favorite items under the $50 mark.
Catamount Trail Association Poster By Artist Kevin Ruelle: $40 and up
Why not give the backcountry skier in your life a gift that will remind them of all the fun times and beautiful things they’ve encountered while out backcountry skiing in Vermont. The poster was created specifically for the Catamount Trail Association and is not your typical poster… it’s very much a piece of art!
Black Diamond Voyager Lantern: $40.00
You might be surprised at how useful a small, durable, LED lantern can be. It’s perfect for providing light in a tent or yurt and I personally love using a lantern for playing cards so you’re not constantly blinding one another. As a bonus, this one can even double as a flashlight!
SOL Escape Bivvy: $50.00
The SOL Escape Bivvy is much more than just your run of the mill emergency bivy. The Escape Bivvy is a durable, superlight, waterproof and breathable shelter system. You can carry this with you in case of an emergency or you can use it to bolster the warmth of your currently sleep system in the winter.
If you spend anytime in the backcountry you need a good shovel. The BCA B-1 with extendable handle is one of our favorites as it does a great job of staying out of the way in your pack while still being supremely useful in doing it’s job when required. When you need a shovel… you want to have a great shovel! Get one for all of your BC ski buddies.
Black Diamond Spot Headlamp: $40
Do you have a head? Do you sometimes find yourself in dark places? If you answered yes to either of these questions you are in need of a headlamp. There’s a pretty good chance that the skier in your life already has a headlamp. So, it’s a good thing that there’s no such thing as too many headlamps. With it’s small size, long burn time, and 130 lumens… we’re sure that the Spot from Black Diamond will be a welcome addition to any skiers dawn patrol kit!
Do you own a multitool? Have you ever used the corkscrew? What about the magnifying glass or toothpick? If you’re going to get a multi-tool it should probably include some real tools. The “Tool” from CRKT is a true multitool and has everything you need to do just about any field repair imaginable. Don’t worry about the lack of pliers… someone in the group is bound to have a Leatherman.
Klean Kanteen Insulated Wide Mouth 20oz Bottle: $30.00
At 4am on a cold morning a hot drink is an amazing thing. This insulated bottle from Klean Kanteen is just the thing to keep your coffee warm in your car while sneaking in a couple of laps before work. It’s also a great place for a #BCVT sticker!
Dry Guy TurboDry Boot Dryer: $40.00
Backcountry skiing is sweaty. Sweaty boots suck. Enter the DryGuy TurboDry Boot Dryer… nuff said.
