There are always interesting things to find in the back of file cabinets, and the CTA has plenty of history to share… Here is an interesting one that give a little bit of insight into the CTA backstage operations.
Currently, the CTA holds over 40 easements, which protect 38 miles of the trail in perpetuity. They have been negotiated on an individual basis, working with all different types of landowners and organizations, and are the continued focus of CTAs Trail Protection Program. Our Executive Director and fearless leader, Amy, has continued this mission and, since starting at CTA, has secured 11 miles of the Catamount trail.
Of course, everything has to begin somewhere! Here is a newsletter article I dug up from 1994. Let this be a tribute to all of the hard work that’s been done, and will continue to be done, to make sure the Catamount Trail is a part of Vermonts future.
