We are excited to announce that Ski Cubs, the CTA’s youth cross-country ski program, will be making fresh tracks in southern Vermont this winter. In its fifth year of offering ski instruction to underserved youth, Ski Cubs continues to grow with the addition of a pilot satellite program in Bennington, VT. Bennington Ski Cubs will provide cross-country skiing to an additional 10-15 underserved youth during the 2014-2015 winter season. This will increase the total number of program participants to approximately 65-70 youth.
Leading the charge down south is Dorothy Wallace-Senft, who has been involved in the Nordic skiing community for many years. Dorothy came to us with the idea to launch the Bennington satellite program, and we were excited to pool resources and share experience and lessons learned from our current Ski Cubs program. We are excited to collaborate with Dorothy, who seems sure to be a mover and shaker in our Vermont skiing community.
As we move forward in the planning phase of this pilot program, we’d like to give a holler to our friends and supporters down south. If you are interested in helping get this program off the ground, let us know! We are looking to acquire additional sets of quality youth cross-country skis. We also are looking for folks to support Dorothy on the ground throughout the winter. As much as we would like to be there ourselves every session, it’s a long trip from Burlington!
As the program is still in the planning phase, we welcome any suggestions and input. Please direct queries and comments to outreach@catamounttrail.org. To learn more about the Ski Cubs program, click here.
