The Catamount Trail is a backcountry ski trail that stretches over 300 miles across Vermont, and we are excited to be accepting and recognizing FKTs.
For those unfamiliar with FKTs, they are a way for outdoor enthusiasts to set and record their fastest times for completing a specific route or trail. FKT stands for Fastest Known Time, and FKTs can be set by individuals or teams, and can be for a variety of activities, including running, cycling, or backcountry skiing.
To ensure the integrity and fairness of the FKT process, we will be using the guidelines laid out by FastestKnownTime.com. This includes requirements for documentation, such as GPS tracking and witness statements, as well as guidelines for safety and trail etiquette. If you are considering a FKT attempt on the Catamount trail please visit Fastestknowntime.com and make yourself familiar with their submission and verification rules.
We hope that the growing interest in FKTs will encourage people to explore the Catamount Trail in a fun and competitive way, while also respecting the trail and the natural environment. If you are interested in setting an FKT on the Catamount Trail, please read through the guidelines on FastestKnownTime.com and then reach out to us to get started.
Verification
Skiers wanting to be recognized for their efforts will need to submit the following information to the CTA. Verification info can be emailed to gmaino@catamounttrail.org.
- The original data file, usually in TCX, FIT, GPX, or KML format copied directly from your device—GPX is preferred.
- A link to your activity on Strava, Garmin Connect, Suunto App, etc.
- A link to a trip report.
- Photos… Submitting original files is preferred as they contain valuable metadata that is stripped out by social media sites.
Items (1) and/or (2) are REQUIRED. Items (3) and (4) are not required but are strongly encouraged since these efforts are inspiring and will help us get others excited about the different experiences the Catamount Trail can provide.
