In this continuing series, we are highlighting some of the recent changes to the CTA Board of Directors. A few weeks ago in Killington, VT, at the Annual Meeting, we celebrated several retiring, longtime board members. While it was sad to see these folks go, we are thrilled by the new additions to our board. Angus McCusker is a familiar face in Vermont’s backcountry scene, and we are excited to have his enthusiasm and experience on the board.
Angus grew up just south of the Vermont border in an area of western Massachusetts known as the ‘hilltowns.’ He spent most of his childhood days downhill skiing at Berkshire East. During high school he switched over to the ‘dark side’ and picked up Nordic ski racing. Angus later attended Stratton Mountain School and then St Lawrence University where he competed in the NCAA Championships. After college Angus did a bit less skinny skiing and spent more time on fat boards while living in Morrisville with his wife, Kricket. During that time he got to know the Catamount Trail and backcountry stashes in northern Vermont.
While living in Morrisville, Angus started a mapping company called MapleRidge Solutions LLC, through which he made trail maps for the Green Mountain Club and a number of Nordic centers. Angus currently works for the State of Vermont Enhanced 911 Board as a GIS Specialist. He spends most of his work days in the field traveling to all corners of the state in his “mapping vehicle” which has made him a proud 251 club member! Angus lives in central Vermont in an off-grid house that he built with his family. The house has taken them 5 years to build (so far) and is still a work in progress. Angus is also very involved in the Rochester Area Sports Trail Alliance (RASTA), and is excited to help promote skiing on the Catamount Trail as well as the adjacent backcountry terrain–whether it’s on fat or skinny skis.
