This past weekend the CTA staff and a few gracious volunteers spent the day helping out at the 1st Annual Catamount Ultra Marathon. There were 145 runners participating in either a 50k trail race (2 laps) or the 25k (1 lap) option.
Overall, it was a beautiful day and Will Robens and his crew put on an amazing event. It was well organized, the course was well marked, and you would never know that this was the first time this event took place. We’re super excited to have an event of this caliber happening in our backyard and we are excited to see this event grow and to continue offering our support in the future. Although quite warm, we had a great day for the inaugural Catamount Ultra. Of the 145 registered entrants, 139 started and 129 finished.

David Herr and Robyn Anderson set incredible times for the 50k that I am guessing will not be easy to touch. In the 25k Patrick Hammel and Kathy Taft Boyden did similar. What strikes me is that despite having entrants from all over the country, all four of these people are Vermonters!

I have already started the process of reviewing and initial planning to improve on this event. My primary goal is to create a great trail running race that runners love.
