Here’s a big shout out to the folks from Keurig Green Mountain who came out for trail work on the Catamount Trail last Friday! We had some serious people-power out to tackle overgrown brush on Section 19 during a beautiful October day.
As we hiked up through the Phen Basin, the trail was open and clear (thanks to the diligence of our Trail Chief, Tony Amenta, and other volunteers), but as we climbed higher, swaths of hobblebush began to crowd the trail. Hobblebush, a common woody shrub of the north woods, is well known for snagging skis and providing acceptable backwoods T.P. But even a large patch of hobblebush is no match for 11 pairs of loppers!
All in all, Section 19 should be spruced up for prime skiing this winter. In the meantime, we will be hard at work on other sections of the Catamount Trail. Check out our Fall Trail Work page for a full list of opportunities. Hope to see you out there!
