On Saturday 2-1-14 four skiers went on the section 1 novice ski tour. With ideal temperatures in the upper 20s, we skied for 3 hours from the Harriman Dam south almost to Route 100 then skied back in order to avoid a car shuttle ( group decision ). We covered about 5 miles and were lucky enough to have a good glide with adequate snow coverage and not to hit any rocks.
There were several nice ice formations on the boulders adjacent to the trail and it was very pretty skiing along the Deerfield River. The sun came out as we finished capping off a wonderful ski. This was the first CT tour for 3 of the participants and all 3 were gung ho to explore other sections. Section 1 is a great section to ski on when there is minimal snow coverage.
