Well… that little bit of snow this past Saturday night was a nice surprise! And though we can’t ski in the woods yet, that doesn’t mean there aren’t turns to be earned.
We wanted to take a minute to thank Stowe Mountain Resort and all of the other resorts in Vermont that are working hard to make snow while still being open to and allowing uphill activity!
Vermont resorts spend a lot of money on snowmaking and sometimes it seems like uphill skiers don’t respect that investment as much as they could. With this year’s unseasonably warm temperatures, there wouldn’t be any where to ski… downhill or up… in the Northeast if it wasn’t for the hard work of the resorts snowmaking crews. We should all try to keep that in mind the next time we’re out taking advantage of snowy trails that aren’t the work of mother nature.
That said… there is skiing to be had. So, set that alarm and get out there are get that vertical in. Eventually the natural snow will come and there’s no reason not to be in great uphill shape!
Also, be sure to check your local mountain’s policy on uphill skiing, wear a headlamp so you can easily be seen, and heed any and all directions or requests made of you by on mountain personnel. We’re lucky, especially during a season like the one we’re having, to have so many places that will allow our uphill shenanigans. But, that will only continue to be true if we, as a community, are respectful and considerate.
Happy Holidays & Think Snow!
