In 1994 the CTA acquired it’s first trail easement and laid out an audacious goal: protect the entire 310 mile length of the Catamount Trail via easements and placement on public land. While easements are both expensive and time intensive to acquire and steward, they ensure that the trail and our favorite backcountry places will be open and accessible for future generations of outdoor enthusiasts.
To date we have completed 45 trail easements and partnered on numerous public land acquisition projects, and more than 70% of the trail corridor is now protected in perpetuity.
