Our Northern Week-Long Tour is almost half-way over and they have been having an amazing time! The conditions for this tour have been perfect with fresh, deep snow, reasonable temperatures, and clear enough skies. Below is an update from Tour Coordinator Peter Cottrell:
Section 26 climbs north out of the Lamoille Valley near Wolcott, VT, then winds through a beautiful hardwood forest to the shore of the Green River Reservoir and then on to Eden Mountain. Sixteen skiers were lead by Sigh Searles, trail chief for Section 26. While portions of the trail followed packed snowmobile trails, much of the trail was covered with a foot of new snow. On those parts, skiers took turns at the head of the line making tacks by forcing their skis through the dense, wind-packed snow. It took about six and one-half hours to cover the 13-mile section so we arrived at Eden Mountain Road at about 4:00PM. This was the third day of the Northern Week Long Tour with 5 more days and about 47 miles to get to Canada.
