Bryant Camp needs our help! It’s firewood supply is dwindling and the GMC is asking for help on Saturday, December 16th, 2017. We’re looking for as many folks as possible to help haul firewood from Bolton Valley Ski Area up a 1-mile stretch of the Catamount Trail to Bryant Camp. It’s a smooth, gradual ascent through the northern hardwood forest and a great inside look at the GMC’s Camps Program. Here are the details:
WHEN: December 16th, 2017 – beginning at 10 AM and going until you’ve carried all that you want to!
WHERE: Volunteers and GMC staff will meet at the Bolton Valley Nordic Center for a quick orientation and then move to the maintenance building where wood will be staged.
WHAT TO BRING: Snowshoes or backcountry skis (barebooting/microspiking strongly discouraged on Bolton Valley Nordic trails). Personal water and hiking snacks. A backpack, sled or ski pulk in which to transport wood; some packframes will be on hand for volunteers to borrow, but we may not have enough for everyone.
PERKS!: GMC will provide snacks and refreshments for volunteers. If you make at least one trip, you will receive a pass for the whole day of 12/16 to Bolton Valley’s Nordic trail system, so bring your skis and plan to enjoy the trails after volunteering! Additionally, we will have a punch-card system: if you make 5 wood carrying trips to Bryant Camp, you will receive one free night at any of Green Mountain Club’s camps. We expect to have another volunteer wood carry event in January, so punches can be accrued across future work days.
