At the recent CTA Annual Meeting in Killington, VT, we celebrated several retiring board members for their longtime dedication to the Catamount Trail Association. While we were sad to see them go, we know that these incredible and active community members have plenty of good work to do elsewhere. Bill Michels, you will be missed for sure!
Bill Michels joined the CTA Board of Directors in 2008 after several years as member, Trail Chief, and tour leader. In addition to serving as Vice Chair for 3 years, Bill has served as a member of the Executive Committee and the Tours Team, and as chair of the Nominating Committee. A summer and winter resident of Plymouth, VT, Bill has played an active role in maintaining and improving the Catamount Trail, particularly between Ludlow and Killington, as a Trail Chief on Section 11 (Lake Ninevah to Tin Shanty).
Beyond his physical contributions on the trail, Bill has generously shared his affinity for new ideas and approaches and his professional expertise as a management consultant. He was as an early proponent of the Race to the Top of Vermont, CTA’s Multi-day Tours and also the Vermont Backcountry Alliance. We anticipate many more days of skiing on the trail with Bill, who, incidentally, does not believe in skins and won’t put them on, yet always gets up the hill anyway.
