This season the CTA is again partnering with the Craftsbury Outdoor Center to offer two community ski days where community members can try out cross country skiing and snowshoeing free of charge.
While we are surrounded by opportunities to recreate outside here in Vermont, these opportunities are not always easy to access. There are many barriers… equipment, technical skill, travel, etc… Our hope is that these community ski days might allow more people to enjoy getting outside this winter.
2023 Community Ski Days
Gilbrook Nature Area – Sunday, January 29th from 10-1pm (MAP)
This event is totally free and open to the whole family. Participants should plan to park at St Michael’s College in the lot to the west of the Tarrant Student Center (MAP). Here representatives from the CTA and Craftsbury will help with skis/poles/boots. For skiing there are a couple of options. The first is to tour around the large open green adjacent to the college. This is a great place to start for those that have very little ski experience. The other option are the trails in the Gilbrook Nature Area. CTA representatives will be on hand for short demos/instruction.
Intervale Center – Sunday, March 5th from 10-1pm (MAP)
This event is 100% free, and no appointment is required. Participants can drop-in at anytime during the event period to try out XC Skiing. Equipment and basic instruction will be provided by the CTA/Craftsbury, and a limited number of snowshoes will also be available for those looking for an outdoor adventure other than XC skiing.
For the Intervale Community Ski Day we are asking that participants park at the Intervale Community Farm (MAP). Equipment will be available at the Catamount Trail Tent. Participants can then access all of the great trails available at the Intervale Center. Questions can be directed to Greg Maino at 802-864-5794 or, gmaino@catamounttrail.org
