Vermont's Gateway To Backcountry Skiing And Riding

Section 28: Craftsbury Outdoor Center to Lowell Village

This tour crosses the Lowell Mountains and travels through many open farm fields, utilizing the historic Bayley-Hazen Rd. for much of the way. There are many wonderful views. The route is part groomed cross-country ski trail (15%), part snowmobile trail (50%), and part un-groomed back-country (35%) trail.

12.9 miles

This is a long, intermediate-level ski except for the last two miles between Rte. 58 and Carter Rd., which contains a short, steep, narrow, twisting descent. On the portions of the route that are shared with snowmobiles be alert, ski single file, and stay to the side of the shared trail.

Note: Please remember to check in at Craftsbury Outdoor Center and purchase a trail pass if you are utilizing the CT within their trail system. CTA members receive a coupon for a discounted trail pass in their Membership Rewards Book.

Trail Conditions & Updates – #CTsection28

With 300 miles of trail to keep track of it can be hard to know exactly what to expect on a specific section of trail, but that doesn’t mean we can’t try. Using Twitter we are hoping to help skiers out on the trail communicate their experience to skiers at home using specific hashtags for trail updates. The format is #CTsection(#). When planning an adventure you can view current updates by visiting the specific section page on the Catamount Trail website, or by searching twitter for the appropriate section you hope to ski. Below are updates for Catamount Trail Section 28… #CTsection28.
