Vermont's Gateway To Backcountry Skiing And Riding

Section 21: Route 2 to Bolton Valley Nordic Center

Pay careful attention to stay on Vast Trail 2/the CT from the Pinneo Brook intersection to a large intersection. Northbound, be sure to take the right fork heading uphill.

Pinneo Brook Rd. is not signed.  It is approximately 1.8 miles east of the Bolton Valley Access Rd. and 4.9 miles west of the Route 100/2 intersection in Waterbury.

Also, please note that the very bottom of the Broadway trail is now a gated shared driveway and often plowed. We are exploring alternatives for the future.

This section starts with a long uphill climb on a trail shared with snowmobiles and ends on the beautiful groomed trails of the Bolton Valley Nordic Center.

7.3 miles

The change in elevation from the Rte. 2 trailhead on the Winooski River to the Bolton Valley Nordic Center is 2000 feet.  Northbound this section requires almost continual climbing.  Southbound the portion between the Bolton Access Rd. and Rte. 2 requires intermediate to advanced skills because there are steep downhill stretches and narrow chutes. Snowmobile traffic, particularly on weekends, increases the difficulty level.  Bring climbing skins to help with icy sections.

Note: Please remember to check in at the Bolton Nordic Center and purchase a trail pass if you are utilizing the CT within their trail system. CTA members receive a coupon for a discounted pass in their Membership Rewards Book.

Trail Conditions & Updates – #CTsection21

With 300 miles of trail to keep track of it can be hard to know exactly what to expect on a specific section of trail, but that doesn’t mean we can’t try. Using Twitter we are hoping to help skiers out on the trail communicate their experience to skiers at home using specific hashtags for trail updates. The format is #CTsection(#). When planning an adventure you can view current updates by visiting the specific section page on the Catamount Trail website, or by searching twitter for the appropriate section you hope to ski. Below are updates for Catamount Trail Section 21… #CTsection21.
