Trail Work Weekends

Bridge Builders

Each summer the CTA hosts Volunteer Work Weekends to complete 2-day trail projects.  On Saturday and Sunday we work on the trail. The CTA provides a campsite or lodging with friends of the CTA, and we gather for dinner Saturday evening.  For those who prefer more luxurious accommodations, we are happy to recommend local lodging. Join us for a day or for the whole weekend, and don’t forget to bring friends or family!

Please contact the Trip Leader in advance to sign up and learn more.

2016 Trail Work Weekends:

» July 16th & 17th – North Central Vermont, Section 18, German Flats Road to Fayston

We will be working to demolish and reconstruct two bridges along a section of trail shared by the Catamount Trail and the Mad River Path Association. The two projects will be accessed from the trailhead that is across the road from Fayston Elementary School. These bridges aren’t too far from the access point, but you should be prepared to move some lumber around, tear some things apart, and construct a couple of functional bridges that are used by skiers, hikers, and bikers alike. If you are interested in signing up or learning more please send Laura Koloski an email at outreach@catamounttrail.org.

» August 13th & 14th – North Central Vermont, Section 24, Sterling Valley area.

Bridge repair and construction, partnered with the Stowe Mountain Bike Club. We’ve got 8 bridges along the trail that have served their purpose over the years, but have finally reached the end of their serviceable lives. During this work weekend we will dismantle bridges, haul in new lumber from caches along the trail, and construct new bridges in their place. This will be a physical and rewarding project! If you are interested in signing up or learning more please send Laura Koloski an email at outreach@catamounttrail.org.
