In the summer of 2014, the Rochester Area Sports Trail Alliance (RASTA) was recognized as a pilot chapter of the CTA/VTBC. With our increased interest in helping small communities and other pockets of backcountry energy develop recreational assets in their own backyards, a chapter model appears to make sense. The CTA is currently moving towards adoption of a chapter-based organizational model this fall 2015.
That said, we are taking things slowly and relying on the pilot chapter experience with RASTA to explore the pros and cons of this type of model and to help us develop a framework on which we might build. Additionally, in June 2015, the Northeast Kingdom Backcountry Coalition (NEKBC) was recognized as second pilot chapter of the CTA/VTBC, and will continue to help us blaze this new trail.
If you are part of a new or existing group or club that might be interested becoming a future CTA/VTBC Chapter, please contact us with your ideas. We are excited to move forward with development in this area, but we want to make sure that we are doing so in a way that benefits all of the parties involved.
